Vocal Mechanics: A Look Under the Hood has evolved from a popular workshop presented by Verlene Schermer, and also from over 30 years of teaching private voice in the San Francisco Bay Area. Verlene's presentation style both in her workshops and lessons and in this book is comfortable and conversational. This makes learning vocal concepts fun, interesting, and easier than many people think it could be! The whimsical graphics in the book, which were drawn by Verlene along with the help of her computer, are useful aids for understanding the physiology, and for applying the visualizations. This book is not meant to replace the voice teacher, but to aid those who are not near enough to a voice teacher for regular lessons, or those who would like a supplementary book with exercises.
